PART  1

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs

The Ballet Institute of San Diego premiered this ballet in 2017. Our choreographic version was
created in 2013 by Lithuanian ballet master Živilė Baikštytė for the Eglė Spokaitė Ballet School in
Lithuania. Each time we renew the ballet, it is paired with the “perfect cast” of young dancers,
around 10 years old, who are ready to take on the roles of the Seven Dwarfs. We have already
seen generations of professional artists and prominent world ballet school students portray
characters like Happy, Dopey, and the other dwarfs. Some of these students later danced the
leading role of Snow White and are now principals on professional stages.
But it’s not just the leading roles that shine in this ballet. Snow White offers many roles for
children, making it an ideal ballet as they can take center stage as main characters. Unlike other
ballets where adults perform principal roles and children are limited to supporting parts, Snow
White allows young dancers to shine independently. Research has shown that young dancers
enjoy performing animal characters even more than humans. Children’s imaginations are
limitless, and we have the opportunity to nurture their creative skills with this new production
of Snow White at the Ballet Institute of San Diego. This will be our fourth redaction of the
wonderful ballet Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.
Snow White is a wonderful ballet that showcases the talents of all, especially our younger
dancers, and gives them the opportunity to perform in a full ballet. The variety of roles
also provides many opportunities for dancers of all levels.

PART  2

THE Paquita STORY from Ms. Egle Spokaite, artistic director

In 1847, Ballet Paquita was staged for the first time by Marius Petipa and Pierre-Frédéric
Malavergne for the Imperial Ballet of St. Petersburg. This marked Petipa’s first-ever
choreographic work. The production included the Paquita Grand Pas Classique and the Mazurka
des Enfants in the final act. Today, the Grand Pas Classique remains a key cornerstone of the
traditional classical ballet repertoire and has been performed by ballet companies worldwide.
Any youth ballet company should be professionally prepared to perform Paquita’s Grand Pas
Classique. The Ballet Institute's Advanced level students will be performing this classical ballet
masterpiece for the first time.  Today, we can mark the first steps toward establishing a Youth
Ballet Company.
