Level 7. Age 9-11

Level 7 is a quality dance education program for students ready to deepen their training in classical ballet, contemporary dance, or both. At this stage, students can begin to discover where their individual strengths and artistic interests are leading them—toward classical ballet, contemporary dance, or a versatile path that combines both styles.

This level includes students with different levels of experience. Some may already demonstrate exceptional technical or artistic ability, while others are still developing their skills through consistent training. Working alongside strong, dedicated dancers helps students build motivation, confidence, discipline, and a clearer understanding of what is possible through serious study.

The program includes classical ballet technique, contemporary dance, body conditioning and stretching, repertoire and variation classes, hip-hop, pre-pointe, and pointe work.

Students attending three days per week may be eligible for the pre-pointe class. Students who attend three days per week and have at least one year of pointe experience may be eligible for pointe class. Students without prior pointe experience may begin pointe preparation through the full program and may be considered for pointe work after approximately four to five months, depending on their individual readiness.

Individual coaching may be available for students preparing solo variations, competitions, auditions, and performances. Students in this level participate in Ballet Institute of San Diego’s two annual performances and may be considered for competition opportunities.

Placement in Level 7 is determined through a successful placement meeting. The meeting may include an individual consultation and a recommended training plan for the school year. Students entering this level should have previous experience in ballet, dance, gymnastics, or a related movement discipline.

For the best progress, we recommend the full program. The minimum commitment is attendance three days per week.

Students of this level are numerous winners of international and U.S.-based competitions. Students entering this level must have prior ballet, dance, or gymnastics experience.
